you two met after what happened with Ian Doyle and she was heavily traumatized from cases from the bau. She was never able to express her love in words, especially not when she was growing up. The L word was non-existent for her as she grew up, she’s never said it to boyfriends, girlfriends, friends, whoever. She’s just never said the L word in her life before.

You two met when you first joined the bau when Emily came back from Paris. You two were inseparable and spent every minute together. Someone ended up developing feelings and that person was you.
