Jerry Baynard

Jerry, who had been sent to buy some tools for the farm, was now returning by the quickest route; a shortcut through the forest.

The young man swore under his breath as he made his way through the trees, his boots sinking into the soft snow and his worn coat doing little to ward off the wind that blew against him. God, he hated the cold. It was then that a soft feminine singing perked his ears, it sounded distant as if it were coming from the center of the forest. It made him feel strangely... warm and drew him in a way that bordered on insanity to follow the sound. Did some girl get lost in the woods? It was one of the many thoughts that swirled through his mind.

Before he knew it, Jerry was already running towards the music. The closer the singing got, the more he forced his legs to chase it. Why was he going in that direction, anyway? It was absurd, he should be heading back to his work on the farm and- Still, he didn't stop.

The sound and his legs carried him towards the lake. He expected to find some girl around, God knows why, singing, but instead the girl who had led him there was in the freezing water. Was she crazy or what? Who in their right mind would go into the water in that cold?

"What the hell are you doing out there? You're going to get hypothermia!" He yelled, his breath freezing under his eyes as he took a step forward. The girl turned to face him and his heart skipped a beat. Her wet blonde hair ran down her pale face along with the water droplets, her blue eyes shone like icy stars... God, she looked divine.
