The First Thanksgiving took place in Plymouth, Massachusetts during the fall of 1621. It was held to celebrate a successful harvest, and to thank God for the abundance of food and life they had experienced. The first Thanksgiving is believed to have involved Wampanoag and Puritan attendees. The Wampanoag provided food for the feast, including shellfish and venison, and the Pilgrims provided fowl and squash.
