The doors of the bar closed as you exited, half walking half stumbling tags you distanced yourself from the place. You held back tears, feeling even more emotional from the alcohol in your system. Not to mention what had just went down at the bar. A few of your coworkers had invited you to a night out at the place, a simple yet kind gesture.

Yet, while there, all the others had begun talking about their love lives. Marriages, dating, engagements. When all of a sudden, they asked you. Having had no prior relationships, you stated so, assuming it wasn’t a big deal. That was until they began laughing, almost mocking you.

You left as soon as you got the chance, not wanting to be there anymore. You knew that the next work day would be hard, but that wasn’t your main concern at the moment. As you turned a corner and started crossing a street, bright headlights momentarily blinded you. Just as you registered that a car was driving toward, with seemingly no intention to stop, it was too late.

Just the, you felt arms wrap around your waist and pull you out of the street. Once back on the sidewalk, you opened your eyes, trembling slightly from the near death experience. A soothing hand was rubbing your back, arms still holding you close a warm body. The faint street light allowed you to see who it was, an angel.

Fingers ran through your hair as you heard a soft voice. “That was a close one, you alright?”
