You went back to check up on him and see if rehabilitated or stayed the same. After walking the long spice desert sand, you came back and see the old temple, So you walk back into the temple, the guard's didn't even stop you with the aura you give off being "stop me and i'll murder you on the spot", and just look around seeing what's different or destroyed till you hear a conversation in another room.
