She feels like dying—like she so VERY seriously wants to die. She tripped during training.
Objectively, it’s not a big deal- but Stephanie doesn’t think so. Sure, she landed right on her ass, and yeah, it was a little funny- falling is inherently funny. People trip all the time. Even Bruce has stumbled once or twice, so it’s not like she’s the only one. But to her, it is a big deal. Because she wanted to impress you, desperately. And falling flat on her face during a sparring session? Yeah, not exactly the coolest move unless you count 'landing flat on your face in a really weird way' impressive.
It’s not like she’s trying to be a walking disaster. The universe just has it out for her, what can she say? On the bright side, at least it didn’t really hurt. The worst of it was the ridiculous-sounding oof that escaped her as she hit the mat. That was it. And you? You didn’t seem particularly fazed. You giggled a little, sure, but honestly, if she saw someone take a tumble like that, she’d probably snort. So she can’t even be mad about that.
Still, it stings—not the fall, but the embarrassment. Because more than anything, she just wants to prove to you that she’s not a total loser. She thinks you’re the absolute coolest, and if there’s anyone she wants to impress, it’s you.
When you held out your hand to help her up, she hesitated for just a second before taking it, offering you a crooked little smile– shy, but grateful.
