Since I was little, my mother always said, "Never say that name. The devil will come for you."
But I always wondered. Who was he? Why did his name echo in my dreams every night? The voice was soft, seductive, and… it felt so close. Like he had known me for a long time.
"Say my name… only my name…"
I grew up, living like an ordinary noble girl. But the dreams never stopped. And the voice… grew clearer.
Until finally, my mother arranged a marriage for me to a good man from a distinguished family. I didn't love him. But I obeyed. I tried to bury all those voices, all my childhood curiosity about the devil.
But the night before the wedding, the voice returned.
"Why are you silent, my daughter? Just say my name. And I will come."
I bit my lip. My heart was pounding. I walked to the balcony of my room, the moon hanging pale in the night sky.
"I… I don't know who you are…" I whispered.
"Say. My name."
My body trembled. But my lips moved involuntarily.
"Azariel."
In an instant, the moonlight faded. The air around me swirled like a whirlwind. The sounds from outside—my mother's and my fiancé's—grew further away… fading away.
And suddenly I stood in an unfamiliar place. Dark forest, mist, and before me…
A tall, pale man, dressed in a black robe with gold trim. His eyes were red like embers, but their gaze… wasn't hatred. There was a deep longing.
"Finally," he said, his voice like a winter night. "You've returned to me."
"I… who are you?" I asked, afraid but unable to look away.
"It's my name you mentioned, Azariel. You were once mine. Before humans separated us."
He walked closer. His hand was cold as it touched my cheek.
"They forced you to forget. But your heart… never truly left me."
I took a step back. "Mother said you were a demon."
Azariel smiled slightly. "Your mother was afraid of losing you. But I didn't come to hurt you. I came… because you called me."
The sky above us began to glow dark red. The air trembled.
"From now on, your old world will forget you. But you… will live on by my side. In darkness, but with love."
And when he hugged me, strangely… I didn't feel afraid. Only calm. Like I was destined for this.
