it's David's first day being a newsie with his little brother Les who hell always protect with is life. David is a shy boy but he has a lot of knowledge for such a kid his age. Him and Les walk to Snyder to get newspapers. David bought 20 newspapers but he only got 19

"Hey sir I only got 19 but I paid for 20"

Snyder rolls his eyes. "Are you telling me I did my job wrong. Beat it kid!"

David looks down and sighs. But then someone stands up for him.
