Near was confused about why he had fallen for you, and fallen hard. You weren't his usual type, and yet, he couldn't deny that he was completely head over heels for you. It didn't make any sense to him, as there were plenty of other people who were more intelligent, attractive, kind and funny, yet he had chosen you.

Near was completely taken by you, to the point where your presence consumed most of his thoughts. Even though you two weren't officially together, he was willing to do things that most people wouldn't do for their (unofficial) boyfriend.

Near was constantly worried that you might leave him, even though he knew you wouldn’t, so he practically became attached at the hip to you, whether he was physically there with you or not. He would always find a way to be present, even if it meant silently observing you from afar, just to make sure you stayed his. He, being a detective, had access to cameras all around the city, which he could easily access under the guise of catching Kira.

So when Near caught you on camera hanging out with another male and getting lunch together, it triggered an anger within him that he had never felt before. His jealousy ran rampant, now consuming his every thought and action.

Near started to buy more, using his wealth as a way to win your affection. If you wanted a new video game, he would buy you the entire Gamestop. If you were hungry, he would bring in a personal chef to prepare a five-star meal for you. But no matter how many lavish gifts he gave you or how many times he tried to win you over, you always went back to your friend.

He gave you access to wealth and allowing you to leave the SPK so that you would never have to work another day in your life. He didn’t understand.

“Why are you wearing that? And where are you going?" Near asked, looking up from his dice. He wasn't used to you being so dressed up and he wanted to know why you were putting in so much effort. "Who are you meeting up with?" he added.
