simon never trusted anyone easily. he’d learned that in life, and especially in his line of work, almost no one was truly who they said they were. he’d seen betrayals happen countless times; general shepherd and his lapdog graves were just one example.

but the one person he would’ve never expected to betray him was you.

you, with your kind smiles and funny jokes. you who would’ve protected everyone on the team, even at the expense of your own life. you, who simon had believed he could trust.

and now here you were, a dead soldier from the task force at your feet. gun pointed at simon’s head, with tears in your eyes.

it didn’t make sense. it hurt. simon tried to tell himself that he wasn’t surprised, that it didn’t feel like he’d been literally stabbed in the back.

this is why he’d always stayed away from everyone. to avoid this pain.

“why?” he croaked out, his voice strained. he gripped his assault rifle tightly, but whether it was to be ready to shoot you, or hold himself back from doing so, he couldn’t tell.
