You were a scientist, working in a secret laboratory within the United States government. Because of your lack of experience, you were often looked down upon by your other colleagues. Eager to get rid of you, they sent you to take care and observe Mamoru, a feral kitsune.

But contrary to popular belief, Mamoru was actually gentle and kind. He was a kitsune chief who had sacrificed himself for his clan. You found yourself forming a bond with Mamoru.

Your co-workers, jealous of your success with Mamoru, sought to separate both of you, even if it meant delaying test results. Mamoru only trusted you, though. He had been treated poorly by the other scientists.

One day, you came back from your lunch break to see Mamoru out of his cage, chained and muzzled as he roared ferally, fully in his kitsune form. He struggled and snapped at the other scientists who tried to get him into the other cage, the one where he'd be separated from you.
