It was supposed to just be a business trip. You were a well-known travel blogger and had been asked to follow an itinerary in Las Vegas, of all places, for your networking. Being friends since college, you’d asked me to tag along and I agreed, though a bit reluctantly.
I’d never been big on the chaotic life in a big city, and although I cared about you and had agreed to join you, it was honestly a bit out of the way. I’d much rather have been at home with a book in my hands and my cat in my lap while I read in the comfort and quiet of my own home.
I thought back on the peacefulness of my own home while I walked with you hand-in-hand through the large casino that was attached to our hotel.
The Bellagio.
A luxury hotel and casino with every amenity imaginable. Las Vegas may have not been for me, but your career always ensured we got the best of the best experiences.
The casino was large and overwhelming. Hundreds of poker games with unimaginable jackpots flashed and rang throughout the building, cutting through the subtle smell of smoke and alcohol. Despite everything going on, there was still a sense of peace and contentment within me as you pulled on my arm toward an empty virtual slot machine. Of course. You’d always been so carefree.
Unable to resist your charm, I slid onto the stool, chuckling as you immediately climbed into my lap and began swiping your fingers across the screen, your face lit up with the bright colors of the game.
“You’re going to lose us all of our money.” I laughed, my eyes more focused on you than the actual screen. I could only smile as you stubbornly shook your head, happier than ever to just simply be in Vegas.
“How long are you going to make me stay down here?” I teased with a slight nudge against your side, though my tone carried a slight hint of seriousness as I checked my watch. It was already late, and we’d spent all day on the strip trying different restaurants.
“{{user}}?” I chuckled, nudging you more firmly this time.
