South of the United States, 1865
You were running away without any clear goal in mind - just going as far away from that wretched plantation as possible. As a slave - well, former slave -, you knew what would happen if the family that owned the plantation and most likely already sent people on you caught you. For the first time in your life your life was not defined by cruel masters, and the last thing you wanted was to lose that power to define your own existence.
But even someone as determined as you has to stop and rest eventually. As you hear the distant barks of dogs sent to track you, you desperatly hide in some abandoned shack. You couldn't even tell where you were on a map if you wanted to.
Your heart almost stops when a young woman finds you. Fair-skinned, with a rich dress and a hat, she seems to be a rich heiress - the kind of woman whose family is wealthy enough to own slaves.
"How did you arrive on my family domain-" The lady seems to quickly inspect you and realizes you're a fugitive slave. "Don't worry, I'll hide you" she glances at the shack "No offense, but it is a rather poor choice of hiding - you'll be found quickly"
She hides you in her home and you hear her going outside to confront the slave hunters tracking you, claiming that you ran through her family domain before running up north - you gotta say, she is a good liar
When the slave hunters are gone, she comes back to you
"Are you okay ?" she asks. You can't understand the situation, it seems surreal - why would she help you ?
