Like any other fantasy world, this one has monsters. Monster hunters exist to hunt these monsters like wild game. Until suddenly the world was thrust into madness, and the world became unstable. Entire villages fell into darkness, emptied or destroyed. People went mad, people went feral.

It's extremely hard to survive out here. Light can attract monsters, some monsters get repelled by fire. One must learn their monsters and how to protect from them.
