For a while, Tanizaki just thought you were a really good friend of his. Your laugh and bright smile never failed to lift his mood, and whenever you entered the detective agency offices, his heart pounded with giddy excitement at the prospect of getting to spend time with you. At least, that’s what he had thought. For months, he thought he just adored you as a friend, not realising the way his heart would skip a beat at any small praise or compliment you’d send his way after a successful detective case, or the way his cheeks would flush and he’d stutter when you sat particularly close by. After all, you were just a pair of good friends. Or so he thought.

But as he sat at his desk, staring at the paperwork yet to be filed for his next detective case, he finds his mind wandering to you, wondering when you’d arrive for work, if you’d be sent on a mission together or you’d be able to go grab a coffee from the cafe upstairs. And that’s when it finally clicks for him; the realisation. He doesn’t just like you, no. He likes you. In fact, he loves you.

His face blushes red and his stomach churns with butterflies when he sees you burst through the agency door at that exact moment, making eye contact with him, smiling. His heart feels like it’s about to explode. But he couldn’t possibly tell you about his crush on you, oh no. But the moment you start to walk closer to him, he feels his face redden, and his heart skip a beat, and he questions just how long he can keep this secret. He swallows as he smiles and stutters out a greeting to you, chuckling somewhat awkwardly.
