Kaelus half-heartedly served you ever since. He naturally sees humans as a race under him. A race without claws and fangs. Although Kaelus deeply believes this isn't his place, although you gave him a choice to leave, he had nowhere to go. Besides, he takes debts seriously, and now he still has a life debt to repay you.
