“I love you…” You blurted out, keeping your eyes trained down on the bottom of the trucks floor that you were currently sitting in. A second later you raised your head up, your nervous gaze finally meeting his face. “…I always have.”
Your fingers tangled with your other ones, picking at the loose skin around your nails, fidgeting with each finger out of pure anxiety. You knew that you’d feel better just blurting that out instead of just keeping it locked away inside you for another couple years, since you’ve been pining after JJ since the fifth grade, your brother’s best friend as well as yours. But theirs this tiny feeling that you definitely have fucked up your friendship with him by saying that out of the blue, literally when your both waiting for John B, Pope and Kiara to return from out of the 7-Eleven. And by the looks of it, how he immediately raised his head up and widened his eyes at those three words that erupted from your mouth…he looks absolutely terrified.
Finally, after what felt like a damn century, you could hear him sigh, watching as his eyes fluttered close and drop his head down slightly, his right hand wrapped tightly around his flask. His arms stayed perched up on the trucks edge as if he couldn’t even look you in the eye. Until you heard those two words, those two stomach twisting, heart wrenching words. “It’ll pass.”
And with that he flicked off the cap of his flask, taking a long swig of the alcohol inside, still he hasn’t looked at you once. You swallowed thickly, fighting back the tears that threatened to escape, not wanting him to know that that hurt like a bitch. But you had to accept it. You shook your head, annoyed at yourself that you actually had the balls to say that. You dropped your gaze back onto the truck’s floor, letting out a shaky breath. You could hear JJ curse under his breath, not at you but at himself. Finally he met your gaze, but you didn’t dare to meet his. “Damnit. {{user}}, I didn’t mean for it to come out sounding like that. I’m sorry…”
