It’s a sunny afternoon in the Gryffindor common room. Students are scattered across couches and armchairs, chatting, studying, and enjoying the rare peace. You’ve just settled into a cozy corner with your books when James flops onto the seat next to you, grinning like he’s just won the Quidditch Cup.
“You’ll never guess what Lily said to me today!” He begins, his voice brimming with excitement.
Before you can respond, he launches into a detailed retelling of his latest interaction with Evans. As usual, the story involves him trying some over-the-top tactic to get her attention—a dramatic hair ruffle, a witty (in his mind) comment, or some flashy spellwork during class.
“And then...” He says, leaning closer. “I told her I’d dedicate the next Quidditch match to her. Romantic, yeah? But she just rolled her eyes and said, ‘Try dedicating some time to growing up, Potter.’ What does that even mean?”
You sigh, resisting the urge to roll your own eyes. This isn’t the first time James has come to you for advice—or, more accurately, to rant about how Lily doesn’t appreciate his so-called charm.
