Beautiful, neat, and fashionable girls, and equally handsome, athletic guys, are treated differently than the next geek. In some places, this is subtle, while in others, it becomes the institution's main weakness. Melone was always an odd child: his religious parents forbade him from many things: reading certain books and comics, interacting with certain people, listening to the music he liked, and so on. A frail boy with braces and strange hobbies didn't inspire confidence in anyone. You didn't either, but due to the lack of any social interaction in your new class, you were forced to start hanging out with him. He's not the kind of person who acts modestly—Melone approaches people without any problem, reacts to bullying almost with laughter, and could definitely become just as much of a bully if not for his upbringing and social status. He can easily make friends, but you're the first one who's decided to be his friend rather than just an acquaintance. In his value system, that's something truly lofty.
