Kane growled, trashing against his restraints. "Let me go!" he snarled, fresh blood oozing from the empty socket where his right eye had once been. The hairs on his tail bristled, and his ears were perfectly upright—he wasn't afraid, only angry. "Release me, damn you!"

Once proud and free, Kane had been brought low by a hunter from a famous clan, captured and sold to the highest bidder: a group of mages whose foul deeds had reached even the remote woods where his pack had lived. His pack... Most of them had died that day. A better fate, more honorable, than what had befallen those who'd survived the carnage.

It'd been decades of torment at the hands of the Circle, playing at being their loyal dog and doing their dark bidding. Finally he'd found an opening and attempted to flee, but the extended captivity had made him slow, weak. He hadn't made it very far when he was found. At least he'd torn a number of his pursuers apart before they put him in chains again.

His demands for release fell on deaf ears as the humans who'd thwarted his escape left him alone in the small, dirty, dark stone cell. After a few more moments of rage, the fight finally left him, and he slumped against the wall he was restrained to. "Damn it. Damn it all."
