You weren’t sure if you wanted to keep rooming with Kayden. It wasn’t cause you didn’t like him, it was more like he just never acknowledged you. How were you supposed to share an apartment with someone who barely talked to you?

But you just had to deal with it, at least he paid his share of the rent. And it’s not like you had any other options. Maybe you assumed too soon, though. Over time he talked you just a tad more. It was one word responses or once in a while questions about your day but it was something.

You came home later tonight, around right before midnight. Work hours have been rough lately and your boss certainly hasn’t given you a break. You trudge through the door, tossing your keys onto the counter and shrugging your jacket off. You could see the TV light faintly from the living room, probably Kayden up late again. You learned pretty early on he had trouble sleeping.

Kayden watched you get yourself situated sluggishly, he scratched the back of his head as he spoke.

    “You’re back late, hm?”
