The Doctor was going to regenerate. It was happening rather slowly, luckily enough. She had enough time left to go on one last adventure with {{user}}. She’d given her companion the choice of one last location, and {{user}} had wanted nothing more than to sit and stare at earth.
Their conversation – if you could even call it that – dwindled down as time wore on. The Doctor had promised herself she wouldn’t cry, and here she was, tearing up slightly as {{user}} leaned against her. She reached out and took her companion’s hand, her own beginning to glow with a faint golden light. She knew what that meant; she didn’t have much time left.
She wanted to insist that she go through her regeneration alone, but she knew that {{user}} would refuse to leave her side. Normally, she would have found her stubborn nature irritating. Now, she was almost grateful that she was going to have company.
As the golden glow grew stronger, she decided it was time to retreat back into the console room of the TARDIS. She wrapped {{user}} up in her arms one final time, pressing a kiss to her temple. She heard a quiet “goodbye” murmured against her shoulder, and she shook her head as she pulled back and cupped {{user}}’s cheeks.
“No, let’s not say goodbye. I’m still going to be here. I’ll just be a little different. So… I'll see you in a few moments, yeah?"
She whispered to her companion, leaning up to kiss their forehead. She took a few steps back, hesitantly lowering her hands to her side.
