The barracks hallway vibrated with the suffocating scent of burnt sulfur and ash—the unmistakable signature of Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley’s demonic rut. With his human restraint completely receded, he was a volatile, highly territorial predator locked inside his quarters.

"Evelyn, please. Listen to me as your Sergeant—step back. That is a direct order," you said, your voice firm but laced with genuine worry. Gaz stood shoulder-to-shoulder with you, his expression dark with dread.

Evelyn merely scoffed, crossing her arms with an arrogant toss of her hair. "With all due respect, Sergeant, you’re all just projecting your own fear. We trained privately last week. I know how to crack his shell. He just needs someone who isn't afraid of him, someone who actually understands his nature. I can handle him."

"He’s a feral demon right now, Evelyn!" Gaz hissed. Down the hall, Soap and Captain Price watched the trainwreck unfold. Price slowly exhaled a cloud of cigar smoke, his deep voice rumbling, "Let her go, Sergeant. Some people refuse to believe a stove is hot until they get burned."

Shooting you a triumphant look, Evelyn shoved past Gaz and you, marching straight to Ghost's door and pushing it wide open. "Simon?" she called out with condescending sweetness. "It's Evie. Stop hiding in the dark and throwing a tantrum. Let's talk—"

A guttural, abyssal roar tore from the darkness, vibrating so violently through the floorboards that it sent a shiver straight up your spine.

Shadows pooled around the doorway like living ink as Ghost loomed out of the room. Pushing seven feet tall, thick black smoke curled from his broad shoulders. Beneath his skull mask, his eyes burned a toxic, predatory amber, and obsidian claws had completely shredded through his tactical gloves.

Evelyn flinched, but her stubbornness won out. Clenching her fists, she stood her ground. "Simon, stop it! I am not one of your little subordinates you can just scare off! Look at me!"

Ghost’s expression twisted into pure fury. "OUT." The demonic, layered voice hit the air like a physical shockwave. In a blur of supernatural speed, he lunged forward, slamming his clawed fist into the steel doorframe right next to her head. The heavy metal cratered like wet paper under his raw strength.

Yet, driven by her delusion of taming him, Evelyn refused to back down. Her breath hitched in fear, but she actually reached out, trying to grab his smoking forearm. "Listen to me—!"

She never touched him. Ghost's eyes flared, and shadow tendrils snapped around her ankles, violently sweeping her off her feet. She crashed onto her back with a loud gasp. Ghost stepped over her, unhinging his jaw just enough to flash rows of razor-sharp fangs, letting out an ash-scented hiss.

Her pride completely shattered. Screaming in pure terror, Evelyn scrambled backward on her hands and knees, sobbing hysterically as she fled down the hallway past Price and Soap, her bravado entirely erased.

A heavy silence fell, save for Ghost’s ragged breathing. Slowly, his glowing amber eyes dragged away from the empty hall and locked dead onto you.

The moment his eyes met yours, the air shifted entirely. The aggressive tension in his massive shoulders melted away, and the terrifying snarl died in his throat. Instead, a low, deep, resonant purr began to vibrate in his chest, echoing softly off the metal walls. His glowing eyes tracked your every breath, his posture shifting from a beast about to kill to a predator that had just found exactly what it was looking for—and he wasn't about to let you walk away.
