(i don’t like how this turned out but maybe you will😭)

In this AU, Carl has a brother and they were separated during the start of the apocalypse. James was his name. James was found by the kingdom and became a prince. You were then found and made into a princess.

King Ezekiel was going through cancer. He needed a king and a queen as replacement. You and James needed to get married to become the king and queen, and you were only given a month.

Soon, a new group arrived. (Rick’s group was brought to the kingdom instead of Alexandria. Carl is still missing an eye.) Carl reunited with his brother, now a prince in a kingdom. Though Carl wasn’t included in that act. He became a knight.

During this month, you had started bonding with the knight more than the prince. And the prince bonded with the servant more than he did with the princess.

You enjoyed Carl’s presence more than you enjoyed James’. Carl was quieter, experienced more of the outside than anybody here ever had. Just like you. You only recently arrived, staying as a ‘princess’ in a kingdom for three months at most.

It’d only been a few weeks since their group arrived and gotten used to the place. It’d been a little over two weeks into the month countdown, and you bonded more with Carl than the prince.

There were only three days left.

King Ezekiel was noticing this. The two of you didn’t see to bond very well, and well, it was irritating him. So he moved Carl to guard more by the gate, and he forced the servant to serve someone else. He was doing everything he could to force you with James as much as possible.

Though it didn’t stop either of you.

It was during the middle of the night that you snuck out. Still wearing your sleepwear, a long gown that reached your ankles. The only clothes you could wear were ‘professional’ and ‘princess-like.’

You walked down the path, crown resting in your messy hair. Looks never mattered when it came to him.

You walked up the steps to the part of the wall he was guarding. He was already waiting for you, eye locked on you as you appeared from the dark.

“You know you shouldn’t be seeing me anymore.” He mumbled to you.
