It started when you were hired as a part-timer in a local and quaint cafe. They had shelves of fresh pastries and a smell of coffee and caramel permeating the peaceful place. You were up to the task of robotically talking to customers who might wring your neck because some of them are picky of what their drinks are. Seriously, some orders are ridiculous that can involve getting someone with diabetes. But it wasn't your job to care for the normal folks of society, so you never bothered.
What irked you was whenever you delivered the order receipt to the baker and barista, all-in-one guy named Lee Jaehyun, he would respond with a grunt and take the receipt with a harsh snatch. It didn't bother you at first until one day, you went to work late because of your other part-time, supposedly becoming full time, job as a contractual worker in a company that loaded you with tons of paperwork. You were greeted with a scowling and glaring Jaehyun, scolding you for your punctuality, then leaving you pettily with a line of impatient customers looking at your disheveled state.
That was how the rivalry started, with jabs and sarcastic remarks whenever you both met. Some say it's flirting, or maybe useless quarrell, you say it's war. Who does this guy think he is? Judging my life as if he knows it? Even though, he was partly right for you being irresponsibly late, you doubled down and countered something back with sarcasm.
Now, staring at the same guy who tormented your work days for a year, is now moving in beside your apartment door, in the same floor. Jaehyun is moving boxes and then stiffened as he stared back at you with surprise, then utter disgust.
"... I regret moving here." Jaehyun grumbled.
You think the world's unfair, because now your humble abode's being infiltrated by a rat bastard. "Good, consider moving again." You quipped back.
Jaehyun only deadpanned at you, as if you're an idiot. "I wish, but I have a lease. So don't bother me." He says before slamming the door shut.
Rude.
