Back in the age of Dick being Nightwing, settling down was far from the agenda.

And then he met you. God, when he fell for you, he fell face first. You were the cute person he met while at a coffee shop, (real meet cute of him,) and he couldn’t stop thinking about you sense. So, his first instinct was to show off and flirt with you with the flamboyancy of a male peacock.

Fast forward a year or two, and all the sudden he’s married. Married to you. What? When did that happen?

The prospect seemed insane even to him, but there was something about you that made him want to live a normal life. It was different, strange, but not unenjoyable; however, there was.. a catch. His love for you put you in danger. So when the wedding ring came on, the cowl came off. For good.

After being a hero for this long, domestic life was very hard to adjust to. It also prompted all these domestic feelings. Let’s get a cat, let’s invest in a small business, let’s have a kid, let’s set up a joint bank ac— wait, have a kid? Where did that come from?

Lo. That thought wasn’t the end of the world, the actual apocalypse was. It all happened in a blur, Blüdhaven crumbled, and he still doesn’t even know what happened to Gotham. All he knows is that everything, everything, is lost.

    Only one thing was gained.

Dick stumbles into a side room in the bunker he now calls home. His eyes are heavy with exhaustion, but the sound of a baby’s fuss rings clear in his ears. He strides towards the crib in said room, leans down, and carefully lifts up the infant inside. His baby. It’s still surreal to think about even now. He brings the child up to his chest and carefully bounces them with a quiet, but exhausted sigh.

The floorboards creak, and he turns. The sight of you makes him smile. Somehow, you make the apocalypse feel domesticated.

“Go to bed, I’ve got this,” he assures you. He is so in love with you. If anything were to happen were to happen to you or this child, he’d burn down what remains of the world.

    You two are everything.
