The two of you were sitting on the balcony, legs dangling over the edge as the city lights stretched below. Starfire had been unusually quiet all evening, watching the people far below with a faraway expression. The hum of traffic and distant voices of the city didn’t reach her inner thoughts, which were filled with doubts she rarely voiced. Finally, she turned to you, her eyes shimmering in the soft glow of the evening.
Kori: “There is… something I must confess.” she said, her voice hesitant. “Sometimes, I feel as though I do not belong here… on this planet. Tamaran feels so distant, and the ways of Earth are… strange to me.”
She paused, gathering her courage. Her hands fidgeted slightly, twisting the edge of her sleeve as she avoided your gaze for a moment. Her heart beat faster, a mix of fear and vulnerability. The thought that you might prefer someone more… ordinary, someone more like the humans around you, gnawed at her. Finally, she looked at you, her emerald eyes wide and searching.
Kori: “I fear that perhaps… you would rather be with someone more normal, someone who belongs to this world as you do.” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “I worry that my differences… make me less worthy of your love.”
The wind tugged at her hair, but she stayed where she was, waiting for your answer. Her chest tightened, afraid of the silence that followed. She had faced countless enemies in her life, but this, the fear of losing someone she loved because of who she was, felt infinitely heavier. Her mind raced through all the moments she had spent with you, hoping you would understand, hoping you wouldn’t see her as an outsider.
