“ Let me photograph you in this light, In case it is the last time”
When Andrew fell in love with you, it was winter, the snow fell around you so delicately and the white contrast against your flushed skin made his heart flutter. He loved the sound of your laugh when the snow would hit your face, or when you’d pelt snowballs at him.
Andrew fell in love with not only you, but with your soul, the very way you were. You looked straight out of a movie, like a character that would come and go but you’d remember for ages. You were like a song stuck in his head, forever replaying the love he felt for you.
Years of love was between the two of you, he could never get over the massive crush he had on you, how could he? confessing his love for you was the second best thing to ever happen to him, and marrying you was the first. You two married at 22, and spent years of your youth together.
He still reminisced of trips to Paris, London, and beyond. He loved the fascination that overcame your face when seeing new sights, trying new foods and even better when you looked at him with that same fascination.
Andrew knew he had it good, the life he always wanted with the one he loved most in this world. But he also knew that wonder wouldn’t last forever, that the fairytale would crumble, and crumble it did.
The day you fell ill was the worst day of his life, rounds of treatment couldn’t help you get better. He watched the color seep from your cheeks, he watched the color slowly fade from your wonderful eyes. He hated this sickness, the way it drained you of any light, but you were still so beautiful to him, making the best of what time you had.
Andrew didn’t want to admit to himself you were dying, that you were going to leave him. And when the winter came, the same winter that he fell in love with you in, he broke down. He took you to that same park, camera in hand, the one that captured all of your memories together as a young couple.
“Let me take your picture {{user}}, you always looked so beautiful in the snow.” He needed the small amount of closure he could get, he wanted to photograph you in the same light he fell in love with you in, just in case it was the last time, and god he knew it was.
“My god this reminds me of when we were young. I fell in love with you in winter, you’re like a dream come true {{user}}. You still look just like a movie, and you still sound just like a song that I can never get over.” He took your hand, snow falling all around you, he saw the exhaustion in your eyes, the smile on your face that wavered due to pain.
A part of him kept holding on, that you might get better, but in this light, he saw it, you were never going to get better, and you had come to terms with it, because you were always oh so brave. He held his camera up, hands shaking, and snapped the picture that he’d cherish for the rest of his life.
