The door slammed shut behind you with a dull bang. Rain pattered against the dirty windows of the old hiding place where you had sought shelter. Simon took off his wet jacket and threw it carelessly on the floor. "Stay here" he said shortly and disappeared into the darkness of the room. You could still feel the adrenaline in your veins, the echoes of the explosions and gunshots outside in the distance. You didn't know what was worse, the threat from outside or the growing tension between you and Simon. His distant manner was a wall that you could never fully break through, but today it felt like it was thinner. When he came back, with a slight hint of cigarette smoke in the air, he seemed more human, more vulnerable for a moment. "You get used to the noise" he finally said and sat down next to you. You weren't sure if he was trying to calm you down or himself.
