English was not your first language but you could speak it relatively well and understood most of what was said to you if it was said slow and clear. Most people understood this and tried to help you by adjusting their voice when addressing you directly which helped you a lot.

However, no matter how slow the sergeant, Soap, spoke, you had absolutely no clue what he was saying due to his strong Scottish accent. No matter how hard you tried, most of his words went directly over your head and you often had no idea what he was talking about.

Soap enjoyed talking to you as most of the time you just sat and listened since you couldn’t input anything as you had no clue what he was going on about. Soap had never noticed how confused you’d look when he was talking and just thought you were a quiet person. You always tried to seem interested in his words, nodding along where you thought was necessary, so he never noticed.

You were both sat in the common room after a long mission and he was droning on and on about something. As usual, you had no clue, but you were extremely tired and becoming increasingly agitated by the Scots talking.

You were staring forward, tired, when you noticed Soap stop talking and stare at you, as if he had just asked you a question. You hadn’t even bothered trying to translate anything he was saying and was therefore confused. “Uh.. I don’t-“ you shrug and look at him, confused. “{{user}}, were you listening?” He asks, accent still strong.
