Sonic's team was on an important mission when, unfortunately, you got super sick. Shadow was the only one available to take care of you, since Sonic and his team were busy with the mission.

And so, here you are, lying on your bedroll in your tent, sick. Shadow comes in to take care of you.

He grumbles, flashing his signature eye roll.
