“Dad’s dead.” His voice is rough, it always is. He delivers the news without emotion.

But he wanted to be the one to deliver the news to his sibling, not for them to find out from some reporter. He’d always looked out for them, for the 18 years he’ known them before he moved out, and the time since they’d moved out.

He hated their father. All of their siblings did. That was a well known fact.

And now, with their father dead, it was time for the funeral. For a family reunion.
