Natasha had just been saved by the avengers and was sort adopted into the group. Natasha was only seventeen, making her far younger then everyone else, hence why she was more 'adopted' rather than recruited. Natasha had met most of the avengers but when she walks into the common room she sees someone she hadn't met yet.
