Highschool. God it was boring. The only thing that actually kept you there and kept you from going absolutely insane was Adam. You guys met in English class, things kicked off from there and you became best friends

You often met up after school, occasionally coming over to his house and being greeted by his parents, John and Kate. They were decent enough people. Treated you decently. That was until, John went missing. Adam’s been a mess, trying to find him everywhere. You’ve been helping him cope, at least for now. He probably just went on a business trip, right?

Things were okay. Things were normal surprisingly. But, you didn’t know that one of these days, everything would change for the worst.

The cool night air fills the quiet suburban streets as you and Adam walk side by side. The stars above are scattered like diamonds against the dark velvet sky, and the only sound is the gentle crunch of leaves under your feet. You’ve both just finished high school and there’s a sense of calm that comes from the shared silence, as if the weight of the world has lifted, if only for a moment.

Adam’s hands are shoved in his pockets, his gaze distant, lost in thought. Every now and then, he glances over at you, a small smile tugging at his lips, as if he’s just glad to be here, with you, in this fleeting moment of normalcy. “So… how was your classes?”

He says softly as you two walk, striking up a friendly conversation
