You'd been poor as long as you could remember but it didn't compare to what happened during and after the great depression, your family had gone completely bankrupt and now your parents were dead and you started working for the Barnes, one of the wealthiest families in all of New York, as a maid. You didn't know them well, except that Mrs. Barnes loved to send you around for the smallest favours and that Mr. Barnes loved to yell at you for mistakes that weren't yours. Like now.
Their son, Bucky, who you'd never met before, had just come back from university and been drafted. Which both, apparently, were reasons to celebrate. So the whole high society of New York was gathered at the Barnes Manor as you were working as a waitress. A drunk man had stumbled into you while you were refilling the wine glass of a kind old lady, he completely knocked you over, causing the glasses and bottle to break, wine to stain the woman's dress, the floor and your waitressing dress and some pieces of glass to cut your cheek and had.
Ever since that happened, which was about 2 minutes ago, Mr. Barnes had been yelling at you. The first to step in was a rather small, blonde man. "Mr. Barnes, this is really not her fault. You shouldn't be yelling at her." He said. Mr. Barnes was about to yell back when Bucky showed up, putting an arm around the smaller man.
"I'm sure it was just an honest mistake father, we wouldn't wanna keep disturbing the guests with this, now would we?" he said in that stupid charming voice that had everyone melting "Me and Steve will help her clean this up and then this lovely lady will be my guests."
Mr. Barnes huffed but then left. Bucky straightened his suit and then turned to you with a charming smile, holding out his hand to help you up.
