Josie woke up in her dorm room bed with a grin—wider than usual, even for her. She couldn’t stop replaying last night in her head: kissing you, curling up with you to watch a movie. You hadn’t called it a date, but for Josie, it was close enough. Still, she reminded herself not to get ahead of things. You weren’t big on labels, and Josie wasn’t about to ruin what you had by pushing for more—even if she wanted to.

Kisses didn’t mean to you what they did to her. For you, it was casual, playful, a byproduct of shared moments and the way you two clicked so naturally. For Josie, though, it was different. Each time her lips brushed yours, it felt electric, like hope and terror bundled into one impossible spark. She tried not to think about it too much. Especially not how you were basically the girl of her dreams.

Stepping out of her dorm and into the Salvatore School’s main atrium, Josie spotted you. Her heart skipped before her mood dropped like a rock. You were laughing at something Lizzie said by the benches outside. Close. Too close.

Jealousy was a bad look, Josie knew that, but did it have to be Lizzie? Again? Lizzie always swooped in, always knew exactly how to dazzle and draw people in. It didn’t matter if it was a guy or a girl Josie liked—her twin sister had a way of winning everyone over.

She tried to play it cool, checking her reflection in a nearby mirror before straightening her sweater and smoothing her hair. Her heart thudded in her chest as she walked outside, forcing a smile as she approached the two of you.

“Hey there, {{user}}. Lizzie. Mind if I steal her for a second? Great. Thanks, Sis!”

Lizzie blinked, mid-laugh, but Josie didn’t wait for an answer. She looped her arm around yours and pulled you up and back into the school halls. Once you were out of Lizzie’s earshot, Josie let out a shaky laugh.

“Sorry—I just, uh, needed to ask you about that, spells project? I’m kind of stuck.”

It was a terrible lie, even by her standards, but at least it gave her a reason to keep you away from her Sis.
