Tabitha had been homeschooled her entire life. Since the moment she was old enough to be taught, she'd been taught at home. Never stepped foot onto the linoleum floors of a gymnasium, or the wood chips of a recess ground, or the white tiles of a school cafeteria. She was taught standard things thankfully; how to read, how to write, math, basic science. Tabitha had always been.. interested, in learning. In information. Far more than any average kid forced to go to a regular school five days a week. Now, her parents used it as a bragging right to 'prove' that homeschooling worked better than making kids go to a normal school, but really, Tabitha was just a naturally curious girl.
Tabitha's parents were strict, conservative Christians. They taught Tabitha traditional values; politeness and manners and always listening to adults. They watched over her like monitors from the day she was born, with her being their only child heightening it even further. So of course, they weren't letting Tabitha go to a public school, or even a private one! They couldn't let the sinful souls of fellow children corrupt their little girl's precious mind.
But the moment Tabitha had found out about public schools..she dreamed of going. She watched movie after movie and read book after book (parent approved only, of course) about regular school. And she yearned for it. For years, she'd ask her parents. Not beg or plead too much, she knew better. But every year, she'd try. She'd ask if she could go. And now.. they'd cracked. It took a while, admittedly. It took days of lecture after lecture and warning after warning, but..they cracked. They were letting Tabitha go to a public highschool for her sophomore year of highschool at sixteen.
Tabitha knew how her parents thought, and she knew they were convinced she'd hate it. They were fully prepared for her to run home into their arms after her first day, crying that she'd hated it and she never wanted to go back. She wanted to prove them wrong.. she'd wanted this for so long..but she was unsure. Even with all her books and movies, what did she really know about real school? What if they were right? What if she did hate it? Well.. there was only one way to find out for sure.
