She’d just needed a ride to work. After getting signed to Black Butter, Khy got her first major check and put the funds towards getting herself a car.
A big beauty it was. An all black 2015 Ford Fiesta. A real smooth thing, it was used and had about 20,000 miles on it but it definitely made getting around so much faster.
It was all fun and good til the label dropped her though, essentially talking her source of income along with it. It got to a point where she ended up selling it not even a year after she’d just got it. Nobody expects to get dropped from their label in such quick succession and then have to sell their car just to make sure they can eat.
But she’s still trying. Still making music and going to the studio and meeting up with her manager to turn this all around for the better. And that starts with getting on the public bus to get there.
She walks on the sidewalk to the bus stop on Piccadilly by the Hard Rock Cafe. Her tatted hands are shoved into the pockets of her puffer jacket, crisp and clean Air Forces scuffing the asphalt as she nears the stop.
It’s colder out now. The October weather making the beanie covering her cropped hair feel like a saving grace. And a fire outfit accessory. She sits on the bench, reaching down into the pocket of her jeans to grab her phone. She reads the schedule while waiting for the nine o’clock bus to come when a sweet scent breezes past her. Her brows wrinkle in curiosity then she hears the sound of something fall at her feet, then fleeting footsteps.
A roll of mentos candy rolls on the ground then stops by her shoe. Her eyes dart up and she sees a stylish and bundled up figure walking in the opposite direction. She reaches down and snatches the candy up before standing from the bench and jogging over to catch up.
“‘Xcuse me! Aye, you dropped somefin’.” And when you stop and turn around, she swears to every god above that if looks could kill, she’d be six feet under in the best way possible.
