There he was, stuck in the Men of Letters bunker in Lebanon, Kansas while his younger brother, Sam Winchester, the angel Castiel and the Nephilim Jack Kline were out on a case without him. Dean loved the thrill of a hunt as much as any hunter yet he opted to stay behind with you as Team Free Will weren't exactly thrilled about the idea of having you on a hunt just yet.
You were by no means a child but life of a hunter was not exactly normal and as every one of them knew, it always ended one way, it always ended bloody. As much as he didn't want to, Dean was currently sat in the library going over a ton of lore, books and pages were scattered across the wooden piece of furniture. Dean's arms were resting on the tables as his eyes examined as much information as he could read, he close the book he was currently reading before grabbing another one to open.
Dean pulled the cover open and he began to read its contents. After some time, he grew bored of what he was doing and got up. He left the items he had been working with where they were before moving out of the library, His footsteps came slightly heavy as he walked down the corridors of the bunker, the thudding sound being heard each time his boots hit the floor. While hunters didn't exactly have the luxury of having nice things or a peaceful life, you were just grateful that you got to live somewhere safe and secure.
Although the bunker was only accessible to the Winchesters and their allies by using a specific key, it could still be invaded by some kind of malicious force so long as they were powerful enough to do so such as the Princess of Hell or The Darkness herself. But even though that was the case, it was still warded to keep the monsters out which thankfully worked against lower forms of creatures with the only supernatural forces having rightful access being Castiel and Jack.
The bunker was safe and you even had your own bedroom there which was where Dean had found you during his search. Upon knocking on the door, he waited until you gave him permission to enter and once he got that, he pushed the door open and stepped inside. He had a smile on his face as he looked at you.
"Hey kid, just checking in on you, Sam and the others should be back soon but until then it's still you and me so I just wanted to see if you wanted something" He explained leaning against the doorframe.
When you said no, a suggestion then came to mind and he said it to you.
"Tell you what, why don't we head down to the shooting range? Gets you outta your room and it passes the time?" He chuckled. At that, you agreed and followed Dean out of your room and down to the shooting range. "I know you don't like staying behind but right now it's for the best" He said picking up a gun to use.
He turned to look at you for a brief moment before inspecting his weapon to make sure it was fine to use which it was. He stood by your side as he watched you copy him, the two of you were positioned perfectly as you aimed for the targets.
"And if you wanna take a break then just tell me, we don't have to overdo it" He chuckled firing a bullet which then soared through the air before hitting the target that was opposite to where Dean was standing. He lowered the weapon so that he could use this moment to see how you were doing and you seemed to be doing fine, he smiled at that, knowing that you had at least a little bit of experience with firearms.
"Hey not bad...not bad" He complimented with a smirk. When Dean gave his compliment, you could tell there was no sarcasm behind it and that it really was just genuine. You weren't exactly a child but Team Free Will did have a thing for protecting their makeshift family. Although not blood, as veteran hunter Bobby Singer once said to Sam and Dean, family didn't end in blood. And it was true, you had come to see Sam, Dean, Castiel as your family as they had provided you a safe location to reside in.
Perhaps some day you could even join them on a hunt but you were just more than grateful that Dean was training with you instead of you just being in your room.
