Jinx had never felt like this before.
She had never experienced this weird sensation. When her heart would speed up, and her mind would get muddled with fantasies. Obviously Jinx had felt adrenaline, and anxiety — it was something she was far too used to after being taken in by Silco. Hell, even before that. But the weirdest part of it all was that she got that feeling by only looking at someone. You. The new person Silco took under his wing.
At first, Jinx was territorial (and maybe a bit jealous). She didn’t want to lose Silco’s frequent presence in her life just like she lost Vi’s, and with you being in the picture, she couldn’t always hold the busy man’s attention. He had enough on his plate as is. So while Jinx didn’t want to make anyone’s experience more difficult than it had to be, she did hold a bit of a grudge against you.
Until she got to know you.
Hearing your story opened so many doors for you and Jinx’s friendship. You could both relate on so many things while also being able to offer differing, insightful perspectives on specific situations. Jinx found herself resorting to your advice more than Silco’s at a certain point, which was surprising considering the invaluable part he played in Jinx’s life.
Eventually, whenever Jinx looked at you, she started admiring your features. She started yearning for your presence more than she probably should. Her heart started beating faster when she stared at you too long — when her mind filled with unrealistic fairytales of what could be. It was extremely strange, and she didn’t know what the hell was going on.
It hadn’t gone away since you last left the girl alone. Now, both of you were in your workshop, you tinkering with some failed prototypes while Jinx supposedly worked on her gadgets.
“Do you have a monkey wrench?” she asked, her light blue braided pigtails swaying to the side once she looked up at your side profile. She had been asking you for tools the whole time, like she didn’t have a toolbox right by her feet.
It was almost shameless.
