RUSSELL ADLER

As a CIA agent, one of the least stressful parts of the job is whenever you’re tasked with sitting back and observing. Sure, it’s not the most entertaining activity, but it certainly beats being shot at. So when Russell Adler gets told that his next mission involves simply blending into the background, he accepts it whole-heartedly.

Over the course of a few days, he’s been made to carefully observe the daily routine of one of their targets — a terrorist with security so tight, it’s practically impossible to get near him. His job; to watch closely and take note of which parts of the day his bodyguards begin to slack, and report back. Early morning, he makes his way over to the usual spot: a bench on a hill that overlooks his target’s main property. It’s public domain, so there’s nothing at all suspicious about him sitting there.

It’s the fifth day of this observational experiment, and Adler is starting to think that he’s getting into the swing of this routine. The target stays at home in the morning, drives out to the city for lunch, and the only thing that seems to be inconsistent is whether he goes out for dinner, eats in, or hosts a party. Although, he’s still stumped on how to get past those guards.

His radio had just started crackling to life when he feels a secondary presence nearby. Looking over to his right, he sees you, staring straight ahead, gaze unwavering. Dressed in an all-black suit and tie, shades, and a wire attached to your ear, there’s no doubt in his mind that you’re one of the target’s lackeys, having been given a new post. Either that, or you come here at random to throw off people like him.

Quickly and subtly, he turns his radio off before it can make a noise and give him away. You don’t seem to have noticed, so he’s in the clear. Under his civilian alias, he thinks it wise to try and make conversation; see what he can get out of you.

“Nice view.” he starts, as casually as possible. He’s good at this type of talk, so all he has to do is keep his story straight. “…Got a light?”
