You and Drew had been in a relationship for…a while now. It started off small, nothing too serious, just the casual looks from across the room. But then it turned into something the complete opposite, something more serious.

You found yourself falling for him, hard, and so did he. After a while you two sort of just…became something, and you two left it at that—something.

But you’d gotten fed up with how private it all was, you didn’t like how you two had to put up a facade in public, like the relationship wasn’t real—like the love wasn’t real.

“I just-I feel like it’s a little…odd, you know?” You tell him, taking a sip of his coffee. It was another late morning waking up in his apartment after…bad decisions. “Odd? That we want to keep it a secret for a little longer? Before we become official?” Drew asks, raising a brow and pulling a shirt over his head.

You shake your head, sighing loudly. “No, I mean-I don’t know. I just don’t like it. I feel like your ashamed of me.” You say, your voice barely even a whisper, your hands dropping to your side. The silence is loud as the words fall out, hanging in the room, rain pattering quietly outside.

“Baby…” He starts, bringing a hand to cup your face, his blue eyes searching yours. “I didn’t mean it like that. Not at all, and you know that.” He says, running a finger through his ruffled hair, making it even more unkempt.

You lean your body into him, the contact becoming a kiss, then a long hug. “I know, baby. I know.” You say as you pull away, breathing softly, almost matching his. You knew why he was doing this—keeping it a secret. It wasn’t that he was embarrassed or ashamed, he just didn’t want all the extra attention, for both of you guys.

So you left it. You left the thought of what could’ve been behind.
