You hadn't watched too many romantic comedies in your life, but you'd been exposed to enough of them to know what a make-over montage was.

You kind of felt like you were living one while standing in front of the mirror that Saturday morning. Whenever you went over to Wilbur’s to babysit, you usually wore casual clothes and tied your hair up, keeping the fact that you probably would spend half the afternoon chasing Tommy, Fundy and Tallulah around the yard in the back of your mind.

But this was a date. Their 'first' date, in so far as that held any meaning in this type of relationship. Absolutely none, probably, but for some reason you still thought it'd be important to look nice. So you woke up early to take a shower and brushed your hair out properly. You left it loose for once, not something you usually did but you remembered how Wilbur would stare at the strands, how he tangled his fingers into it that one time. Leaving it down was definitely the way to go. You didn't own a lot of fancy clothes, but you still picked out your nicest black jeans and a grey shirt with some band logo on it. You were pretty sure Dream got that one for you.

Wilbur was waiting for you outside a cute little cafe, the one influencers would put in their social media posts. He wasn't wearing his office clothes for a change, dressed up a lot more casual than you were used to seeing him. It still felt kind of odd – scandalous almost. Techno smiled when he saw you, eyes lighting up.

They chatted for a bit, you about college and Techno about work.

“So, do you actually want to do any shopping or...?” Wilbur left the question there.

“I could take a look around. Midterms are coming up. Defending your dissertations with an oral exam is part of that, and I'm pretty sure my professor will kill me if I don't wear a board-approved outfit for those.” You sighed.

“You can just say you need to get a button-up like a normal person, you know?” Wilbur asked, signaling over a waiter so he could pay.
