your home life sucked, you knew that. hell, you owned up to it. what good would it do if you denied it? wouldn't change anything.
so, after admitting it on a somber, rainy day in Tulsa, your oh so compassionate friend, Ponyboy, offered you a place to stay for the night.
even after all the times you tried to refuse, to tell him it was fine, he insisted. and who were you to deny those hopeful eyes? he genuinely looked like a kicked puppy when you said no.
the walk was long, not that you complained. you knew it'd be worth it, better than going home to screaming, yelling and alcohol.
you'd already met his brothers a few times. They were alright. you already had a favourite, but who's asking?
the walk lasted long enough, in a sort of comfortable silence between you and pony.
the second you walked in the door behind him, you could feel Darry's eyes on you. you could practically hear the smirk he gave towards Ponyboy until he quickly glared it off.
you mumbled a small "hi", towards his two brothers as Pony took your stuff and set it down next to the door.
Darry smiled, asking a simple question, "are you two hungry?"
Ponyboy shot him a confused look, as did you. both for different reasons.
To Ponyboy, Darry never asked that.
to you? no one ever asked that.
