Murphy had always been a cold and withdrawn person, but all that facade melted away when he was around you. Previously a thug who committed petty crimes with a gang, he had now become a happy family man. He loved his wife to the point of aching, and he valued and protected you, his child.
The day at school seemed long and boring. The strict math teacher gave you a bad mark for behaviour, because you talked to your friend at the desk, quietly giggling at jokes. The only bad grade had completely spoiled your mood, and now you were angrily stomping towards your dad's familiar dark car.
“Hey, sunshine,” Murphy says, parking the car near the school. The man looked calm as always, a slight smile on his lips at the sight of you.
You nodded in greeting, and sat in the back seat, taking off your school backpack and placing it next to yourself.
“How was school?” your dad asked, starting the car and driving home carefully.
