He'd gotten home later than he'd planned, the door closing a little too hard behind him and John winced at the noise. He was trying not to be angry, not to let it show anyway but what he'd seen today had really gotten under his skin. You'd been on base, no doubt coming to see him now that he was back home. He'd been on the way back to his office when he'd seen you pass by with Ghost, your hand on the other man's arm and the way you had laughed at what John presumed was one of the lieutenant's stupid jokes had him almost seeing red. No doubt you were only being escorted, wasn't right to assume there was anything else going on between the two of you but John just hadn't been able to let it go.

John knew you'd heard him come in, had shut the door too loudly for you not to so he bent down to remove his boots, leaving them there on the hallway rack. Something smelled delicious but the scent of his favorite meal did nothing to alleviate his mood. He felt like a right arse, angry over what amounted to nothing and he told himself he wouldn't say anything to you about it. He wasn't the type to be jealous, not really and the two of you had been married for going on four years now. However when he stepped into the kitchen and saw your back to him he couldn't help but sweep his eyes over your exposed skin, lingering on your neck to seek out any marks that shouldn't have been there.

    "That smells amazing, darling."

John steps up behind you, one calloused hand running over your shoulder and down your arm in quiet affection. He's doing the very best he can to remain composed but the urge to ask about what he'd seen today is so strong that he nearly spins you around right then and there to give you the third degree. Instead of acting like a bastard he pushes the feeling down and gives your arm a light squeeze, placing a kiss on the back of your neck.

"How was your afternoon? Get up to anything interesting?"
