Ares couldn't believe it...
He had grown up neglected. So naturally he had anger issues and abandonment problems.
His parents liked Athena more. Everyone did.
But the only thing that he ever attended besides mandatory meetings, and obviously war, was his fathers parties.
They were pleasant. He mingled and made a few friends or even had a one night stand. They were comical sometimes.
Especially when everyone was drunk. He was one of the only gods besides Athena and Dionysus that don't get drunk easily and have a high tolerance for it.
But the thing that always made him uneasy, and feel alone was... The slow dances.
Ares had attended one of Zeus' many parties again.
Once again everyone got drunk in the span of one hour. Although he did have someone catch his eye that he hasn't seen before.

He didn't know why he kept staring. Maybe because you were pretty. Maybe because you hadn't been here before. Then the slow music started.
He sighed.
He didn't bother to even try and get a partner. He walked outside in the garden and gazed around setting his goblet of Ambrosia on of the statues platforms.

"Why are you out here." He saw you fidget and he sighed. His gaze softened somehow and the music came back into his head.
