You and Travis were expecting. Not the greatest predicament given the fact that you were both stuck in the middle of nowhere, trapped in the wilderness, with no way to contact society; but it couldn’t really be helped as you both had fucked before the plane even went down.

However, your two’s relationship had been strained as of recent. He had turned to Lottie, seeking her out as some sort of spiritual guide- trying to find any explanation or security since his little brother, Javi, had run away from the group, disappearing into the forest; nowhere to be found. It had taken a great toll on him- he began to suffer frequent panic attacks, and left early in the morning to search, only returning at dusk, unwilling to talk to anybody.

Lottie was feeding him, as Tai liked to put it, ‘spiritual woowoo bullshit.’ He was performing rituals, chanting at the trees, drinking tea infused with Lotties blood for ‘good luck’. Sure, it was weird, but it didn’t bother you until Lottie started prayer circles for you and Travis’ baby- you began having strange dreams, entered mostly around her trying to do weird stuff to you, or the baby. She gave you blankets with the wilderness’ symbol as a present, for gods sake. It was seriously worrying you.

This had been going on for about two months, and your relationship with Travis was quickly deteriorating. You begged him to leave her alone- to a snap out of it, but he refused, claiming he needed something to have faith in. You two were barely on speaking terms, which wasn’t great considering you were 9 months pregnant, this baby ready to make an appearance any second. You were sat at the fireplace, glancing out of the window; you saw Travis and some of the others sat around in a circle, Lottie stood in the centre like an almost godlike figure.

You went outside- curiosity getting the better of you- hearing the others, including Travis, chanting for the ‘safety of the baby’. You stood there in shock- heart dropping as they repeated ‘we hear the wilderness and it hears us’.

“What.the.fuck.” You snarled, Travis’ head snapping up, eyes meeting yours with an almost guilty expression. “I can explain-“ he started out, hand rising as he stood up.
