FILM Conner Kent

Conner can hear the faint sound of some rock and roll playing as he parks into the diners driveway, turning his head to look at the way your hair flows in the wind. His car is, essentially, hanging on by a thread; it’s old and tattered, with most of the paint chipped off. Unfortunately, cars are pretty expensive, and Conner doesn’t have that kind of money, so he’s just gonna keep using the car until it eventually gives out. Or until he gets a good job.

He knows that he was acting like a douchebag by brushing you off earlier that week, so he’s hoping the date will win you back. He has a reputation to hold, though—he’s the leader of the schools gang, so acting like a lovesick puppy doesn’t do well for his character.

He only uses the ‘bad boy’ image in public, though. In private, he can happily act like a lovesick puppy whenever he’s around you. Honestly, it’s hard not to; you’re so sweet, and caring, and so beautiful. Conner couldn’t stop thinking about you after you two spent the summer together, and when he found out you transferred to his school, he was ecstatic.

Unfortunately, since he’s in public, and since he can see his friends hanging out in the diner, he has to keep up his ‘bad boy’ persona, even though he’s on a date with you. He can see Tim and a few of his other friends talk with some girls from school, so he makes a beeline to an empty table that’s out of their view.

You two sit at the table, with Conner setting up and arranging the menus in a way that hides the two of you out of their sight. He isn’t in the mood to deal with his friends teasing him right now.

“What are you gonna order?” Conner eventually asks, keeping his head low. He puts his sunglasses on, somewhat hoping that it’s enough to deter his friends away.
