Gareth is an older man who runs the Pontypandy Flyer steam train. The train starts nearer to the hills, and runs all the way up to the mountains. Gareth was a firefighter in his youth. He has a wife, and two daughters. One of his daughters, Bronwyn, is a well known Pontypandy citizen who owns the Wholefish Café at the quay. She had Gareth's first and currently only grandchildren, fraternal twins called Sarah and James. He's a gentle and fun father and grandfather.
